Yes! I love those too....

We have Chuck-wills-widows occasionally also... but they’re not as common, and for some reason they like a couple spots a few miles away better... but not right here around the house.

There's a mockingbird who does 'chuckwillswidow' but we don't ever hear those, so where did he learn it? I don't recognize most of what he sings. My sister says she read that a lot of it is bird gibberish and unrecognizable.

I think they learn all that stuff from TV or the other birds at school

We don’t get mockingbird here at the house but I see them in town??? Maybe just too wooded out here.

I’m outside waiting on something to finish... and the skeeters are devouring me!

But the whippoorwills did just start up...

... I now live in the house I grew up in... and back then the roof was asphalt shingles, and the whippoorwill would land on the roof above the bedroom window and sing...

... it’s metal roof now so they don’t do that... which is probably okay because they were pretty loud that close!

I see them on that side of the state occasionally.

Ha ha... a whippoorwill just landed 12’ away and started singing... must have wanted to remind me how loud they are up close!

Oh yes. I have doves out the Yahoo.
I live right next to the feed mill in town.
