calling any one from missouri

Loving this rain.... Just had my Vegetable garden tilled and I am afraid of having another drought year... But this rain really helps ease that fear. Anyways, just started free ranging this week and the chickens absolutely love taking their dust baths in the fresh dirt and sun. Gonna be a pain having to fence it off this weekend so I can plant. Anybody ever have any luck with veggies and chickens for weed/ bug control? I would make the assumption that they would just destroy the veggies.

I have a veggie garden and I have to keep my hens fenced out, otherwise they eat lettuce and greens/cabbages, peck holes in the tomatoes and eat all the strawberries. They are allowed in the garden December through early March when the beds are empty. On the other hand, we don't have a bug problem in the back yard!

I was gonna say - chickens LOVE gardens! It was so dry last year I wasn't getting much from mine anyway and let the birds have at it. They sure did. They'd even fly up on top of my tomatoe cages and gorge on the fruit there.

Now ducks don't have those sharp beaks and think they could cruise in the garden for bugs and you'd be ok.

If you want a garden either have to have runs for the chickies and keep em corraled while growing or fence the garden.

Everybody make it through the storms ok ?
Ducks will destroy a garden . They use their bills to root up the dirt. Muscovy aren't as.net. But my east Indie will level one.
