calling any one from missouri

Wondering when the crazy Missouri weather is going to calm down and stay warm.
My three SLW pullets are almost 5 weeks old and STILL in the house! I have put them out during the warm days.
Just not many of those. Did you know after chickens grow up a bit they smell if you keep them in the house in a brooder?

Really?
Chicks don't spend more than a day or two in the house here regardless of weather.
Besides the smell, how do you like the dust?
The brooder has tall sides...still.
So yours do ok outside by themselves? I have been tempted. The only pen I have open right now is only has a
re-fabbed dog house for shelter....
My other "girls" still have heat in their bedrooms.
SO maybe I have spoiled hens?
Other than the pen I mention...I could only add them to the flock and not sure about that?
Interesting... You make me reconsider...

Mine are going out this weekend. I have a enclosed run with a small coop that is attached to the main run and coop. I put my babies in there. That way they can see the big hens, still have a run to get some sunshine in, and a nice warm coop for night. But right now I have 2 very bad roosters on death row in my chicks pen. I think I have re-homed them for this weekend. So hopefully mine will be going outside then. Mine go from a brooder box to a 2.5 foot deep old water trough I have in the basement. I think it is 6 foot long. They love having all the room, and yes the dust is getting bad!

I am in the middle of nowhere.. Salem.

I breed Turkens, Bantam Cochins w/frizzles, MF Cochins(just started laying)Showgirls & Silkies(not laying) and just hatched out some MF Leghorns.

I used to have chickens with a lot of different breeds, but life changes caused me to get out for a while. Now I am getting back into it, but at a lot smaller scale.

Hopefully, one day will have Tolbunts. Fingers Crossed!
I am right up the road in Roby, welcome!!!!

I guess i'm a sucker then! I have 6wk olds in my basement still! Guess they are definitly going out this weekend with my silkies. Other group has been known to pick on the babies too much so i can't out them in there until they are old enough to defend themselves.
