calling any one from missouri

Sounds good gals, I will check and see what maybe available between Kirksville and Columbia. I wouldn't mind meeting some of you at an small animal sale if some are going to any close enough. I will check things out on my end for a MO BYC Swap Meet.

Hello All You Missouri Folks!

A long time ago DH and I had a hobby farm in SD, that was where we fell in love with chickens. It was also where we raised our blended family of 6 teenagers.

Life took some interesting turns and all of the kids went off to college and started lives of their own.

We looked at each other and wondered what we wanted to do with the rest of our lives. We decided we loved raising kids, (almost as much as chickens!), so we had one little guy of our own, adopted 2 little ones from Vietnam and foster adopted a sib set of 3 right here in the good ole US of A.

Our oldest kids still at home (8,9, and 11) have heard tales of our life on the farm and are mad at us that we didn't stay on it for them! (Didn't know at that point there was going to be a them! LOL)

Well, for the past 4.5 years we have been desert rats here in southern New Mexico....took us that long to warm up after SD!

I lived in St. Peters for a short while, many, many, years ago during my first marriage. I have a soft spot in my heart for MO. Lately, I have spent time on realtor.com looking at property in SW Missouri. Rural MO is beautiful.

SW Missouri mostly because I figured if it was down south maybe the winters would be slightly more temperate. We are both getting a little long in the tooth and not sure I want DH out shoveling TOO much snow.

I am wondering if any long time Missourians would like to tell me what they like best about where they live-and where that is, of course. Anywhere in the state, not just SW.

My DH (long time College Professor turned High School Physics Teacher) figures they must surely need teachers there in Missouri too, somewhere!

Thanks to anyone who cares to respond!

Jmajors, Thanks for info on the high school, we'll check it out. And meanwhile, I'll do my research on Marceline and the surrounding area.

Hubby teaches anything to do with math and the sciences. Anything from Physics, Algebra, Chemistry, Calculus, (college prep), to basic mathematics and environmental science, etc... (His PhD is in astrophysics.) He still teaches for several colleges online from home, but really enjoys teaching the high schoolers.

That is also where our benefits come from, as all of the colleges have figured out that hiring a lot of people part-time to teach these online courses, saves them a lot of money by not having to provide benefits, as opposed to fewer people full-time.

Brad has taught high school for two years now, and while it was never something he set out to do, but chose to out of necessity-he's found to his extreme delight that it is really rewarding teaching the kids.

He has a real knack for it, the kids love him. Teaching high schoolers is a talent he never knew he had! LOL

Thanks for your post! Going to go google the school district in Marceline for contact info now.

I'm right above the Missouri border in Southern Iowa. I don't have any BYCers close to me so maybe I can be in your group also.

I live about 10 miles from Karan and she was telling me about this tread. Something about a chicken swap?
