doors used to be built with only wood boards and hand forged nails. These nails were long enough to dead nail the wooden panels and stretcher boards together, so they would not easily pull apart. This was done by pounding the point of the nail over and down into the wood. A nail that was bent like that is said to be "dead",....... dead as a doornail.

Looks like old man winter is giving us one more hit. St. Louis news says 35 for the low tonight. That's not helping the soil warm up. I guess the inch or so of rain we got last night isn't going to help me get in the garden anytime soon anyway.

LOL I remember 1 year trying to plant my garden in my muck boots, sinking in the mud up over my ankles! I didn't think it was ever going to dry out enough to plant. So far this year I have only turned over & weeded 1/4 of my garden. It was on my "to do" list for Spring Break (which is now). We'll see if it dries out enough.

yeah I guess I am going to have to cover some stuff up tonight its going to be 34 here.. my cherry tree showed its buds this morning lol. perfect timing.. good thing it's in a pot.

Accuweather for my zip says 30 tonight. North county. I'm worried about the fruit trees. Apricot is finished blooming so that fruit might be shot if it gets that low. Plums and peaches are in full bloom too. Apples and pear buds are swelling.

Our Asian pear trees are full of unopened blooms and are a little ahead of the apples and peaches so I'm hoping they will survive 29 degrees tonight. I read somewhere that the blooms are safe as long as they haven't opened and as long as the temp doesn't stay low for very long.

At this point in time you can only hope and pray. We lost most of our blackberry crop last year along with our pears to a late spring frost. Here's hoping history doesn't repeat itself although if it has to get cold I'd rather it do it now before things get in full bloom.

i am afraid the juneberry/serviceberry trees wont produce well this year.. most of them are in the middle of flower...
