calling any one from missouri

Yea, I have to wonder why I want more but that photo of the Silver Sebright flying to your arm is so beautiful. She is so pretty to look at. I must check my urges for now lol. I have a 12' x 16' shed next to the chicken yard that I want to convert to a coop this year. Probably fence around it and have two separate chicken yards. I have 9 RIR's now and they are pretty entertaining for me not to mention the delicious eggs.

One reason to get more chickens each spring is to have eggs thru the winter, as the adult hens will molt and probably stop laying for a while if not for the entire winter, whereas the new pullets will continue to lay. However, all my 2017 pullets also molted last fall and stopped laying for a couple months and for a while I had zero eggs from 8 girls! (A lot of people on BYC reported their pullets were molting last fall. I didn't know this could happen, but apparently it can.) I can take extra birds to the Joplin poultry swap, just have to decide which ones should go. The extra cockerel for sure.

I wish Joplin was closer to me... I had to replace my original group (dog killed them all, dog died too) late in the year. They hatched on 8/16 so I got my first eggs in the middle of December 18 weeks to the day. Just looking and I see a swap in Farmington and that is pretty close. The page is pretty old so I need to check it out.

Eggs through the winter is why I want to get a few Cinnamon Queens from Cackle... maybe mid summer. I'll just have to see if I'm ready or not.

At a swap meet if your trying to get rid of males do people just take them for free?

I 'm sure they would. I haven't ever gone as a seller. There are buyers walking out carrying chickens by their feet, so you know what will happen to those......I think I'd ask $5 or more first, hoping to find someone who'd keep them alive. I saw a man with a cage of Dutch bantam cockerels and he later said he traded them for ducks. Anything is possible. Including bringing home diseases! It's kind of a crazy scene there. But I have too many chickens in spite of recently losing 2 to coyotes. The next swap is April 7. We'll see.
here's a pic from a Joplin swap...we met this man selling Seramas...

If I am absolutely sure I have 3 pullets and 2 roos by swap day, I might bring in a pair, one of each, and get a better price sold together. That would leave me with 3 Spitzhaubens, which is fine.
Here's the extra boy---anyone interested?

Would anyone be interested in a 4-5 (5-6 on Friday) week old Buff Orpington cockrell? I got 8 chicks a few weeks ago and 2 of them are boys.
So far, I've had no issues with him, aside from the fight he got into with his "brother" last night. I know that it's part of the pecking order thing. I'm just trying to avoid unnecessary issues. If I can't find him a home we will adjust accordingly until the is no other option.

Also looking for 4-6 healthy, Orpington pullets, preferably 4-5 weeks or a bit older.
We live around Herrmann. I would be willing to meetup.
This is the cockerel. 20180326_170206.jpg

We got 1" from that last system. From old items in the basement I improvised a small hanging 'waterproof' feeder. I used a plastic chick feeder base, a plastic peanut butter jar and a big plastic planter saucer thing. It kept the feed dry in heavy rain. I reported above that the bantams were ostracized, but suddenly, everyone is one big happy family, go figure. But I haven't integrated the Spitzhaubens yet....
