Cherokee County (KS) will have their fair July 24-28. Lots of chickens there last year. I guess the youth fair in Vernon County MO is this week? That's in Nevada. I'll be out of town......They had a lot of poultry last year.

Welcome to the MO thread!!I'm in Salem, Mo.

WOW! Those are all beautiful birds!!I just got back from a trip w my Mom. We rode the train from VA to her home in FL. I really enjoyed the train ride, my first. She lives in a retirement/assisted living village surrounding a small lake. I do not enjoy big city life, but found solace in going down to the lake and watching the water fowl. There are swans, geese, ducks, and other water birds, some domestic, some native, or accidentals. The only mute swan lost his mate and this was after they traded the 6 cygnets for 'assorted ducks.' My mom said she asked them, don't you know that swans are worth a lot more than ducks? They answered, 'well, do you know anyone that wants them?' Anyway, there are all kinds of colorful birds, including a flock of black neck swans. The Egyptian Geese, she said, showed up on their own. I really liked these, see the 4th pic.

I would love to have some waterfowl on that pond. It's surrounded by trees and I think ducks and geese would love it. I don't think I can afford swans....unless my mom's community wants to get rid of any more.....maybe I could trade some chickens, lol.
Shaw, do you know what the red ducks are, in photo 3, are they ducks? I know that the bird on the right is a red breasted goose, I don't know if it's part of the domestic flock or arrived on its own. FL has a lot of escaped exotics.WOW! Those are all beautiful birds!!

I think @OhZark Biddies is right, Ruddy Shelducks. I read they are not native to this continent, but " this bird is observed in the wild from time to time in eastern North America, although no evidence of a genuine vagrant has been found." I don't know if these came to that lake on their own or if they were intentionally brought there--there are several of them, not just this pair. Florida has so many accidentals, not all of them welcome. For example, there are now a lot of iguanas, and they are considered of a nuisance.I have no idea. They are gorgeous. I was going to ask you if you knew wilt they were.
