Last week we got 12 inches. Shoveled all around the tractors and coop so they could come out. We couldn't make it out to go anywhere. But that didn't matter as long as my chicens were happy. My coop is on concrete blocks, so they like to go under there with inclement weather. Put pallets down in a path to the barn where 7 of my chickens insist upon roosting. The black austrolorp roo that is in charge stays there. He goes out to the tractors and coop and waits for me to open them daily. My guineas roost on the top beam in the barn and usually only come down to eat and then fly back up when it is cold.
Nothing is out today - single digit temp.

Hi.
Live in Beaufort and looking to buy hatching eggs I can pick up. Don't have much success getting them delivered in the mail.

Hi @mkeawsh
I have a salmon Faverolles rooster, over Dominique, splash americauna, and salmon Faverolle hens...all from cackle hatchery...

The Faverolle x americauna
crosses should all come out blue feathers and lay green eggs... so basically homemade Easter Eggers.

The Faverolle x Dominique cross will result in black pullets and barred cockerels

And the Faverolles would all be pure Faverolles of course.

If any of that sounds like something you’d want to hatch, I’m not too far from you... and could probably meet you in Cuba.

If those aren’t what you’re looking for, no worries.

Down to 12 deg here this morning... first time I've actually closed the pop door from the coop to the run this year, as I was trying to limit the drafts last night...

I went out this morning at 6:30 and opened it for them, and they were all on the roost looking pretty cozy.... I was the one not loving it out there at that temp!

I think it's supposed to get down to 3 deg here tonight...and probably about the same for most of the state... so I guess they'll just have hang in there, or:

I'm looking at our forecast. Up to 22 today, then -4 tonight and a high of 8 tomorrow. 3 tomorrow night and then the worst is over. Around 50 Saturday thru Monday.
It is usually a couple degrees colder at my house than the airport where the forecast is for.
A few years ago, it got to -19 here.
The last thing I did yesterday before dark was to insulate the bee hives and put a wind break around them. It's the first time I've ever done that.

ugh!, I just checked my hive this weekend and it was dead :( ... I had a bad feeling a month ago, but I didn't want to disturb them when I had the time to check. I've not investigated to see if I can tell what the issue was yet. Hoping yours fair better!

My bees last winter starved out. I don't know why I didn't feed them fall 2017. I put candy boards on them in 2016 with pollen patties and they came through winter very strong.
This winter I put candy boards on them around the beginning of November. I was running out of time and couldn't cook it so I used no-cook boards. I started with 3 Nucs last spring.
Procrastination has been my biggest problem. I'm determined to inspect more often if they survive the winter.
