Hello!

I'm so glad there is a post for Missouri! I'll be looking to buy chicks later this summer...about mid-June (out of state for work at the moment). In town at the moment, so I can only have 3 hens. I want to raise heritage breeds. I am leaning towards Dominques. Anyone have any experience with them in SW Missouri? Do they handle our wild temperature swings well?

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome to the MO thread! I have never had Dominiques, but all the different breeds I've had handled the temperatures fine. It seems that the entire country is experiencing wild extremes.....
Good luck, I look forward to seeing pics of your chicks!

Thanks! The weather sure has been crazy. I can't wait to post pictures of the little fuzzy butts! I'm so excited for this summer.

I'm pretty sure my neighbor has some Dominiques.

I got my last chicks from Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, MO. Looks like they can sex the Dominique breed. I have RIR hens now and the next batch I'm getting are some Cinnamon Queens.

I renewed my drivers' license today. This is the first day Missourians can apply for the Real ID license. Mandated by Homeland Security, all states must be Real ID compliant by Oct next year, you won't be able to fly on commercial flights if you don't have it. (passport will suffice too) To get your license, you have to have a bunch of documents such as social security card, passport or birth certificate, 2 acceptable proofs of address....

just saw a groundhog out by the coop... it ran off real quick, before I could scold it about all that late winter weather ;)

Also saw the first red wasp of the year...:(
I hates red wasps!
And mosquitos. . I slapped my first mosquito of 2019 already yesterday. :barnie

Cackle Hatchery is where I was looking to get the Dominique chicks from. I have never heard of Cinnamon Queens. They are beautiful!
