Ran across this interesting silk moth earlier...

I leave a lot of sassafras sprouts in the woods when thinning and cleaning up, because the swallowtail “Flutter Flies” use them as brood trees... according to the MDC these moths like them too...

Back off! The sassafras is for the bugs... lol

Actually I have small sapling in the yard growing too close to a big post oak... so I was thinking of trying to pull it up and get some roots for tea.... but I’ve read that sassafras tea contains something that is bad for us... so??

My people on my dad’s side also collect the leaves, dry them and then blend them into a powder... called file’... pronounced Fee-lay... it’s used as a thickener for soups ... traditionally for gumbo... this is apparently bad for us too...

I remember hearing something about sassafras being bad for us too. And this was before the age of the internet.

I kept seeing a doe hanging around the woods on the edge of the yard today.... so I suspected she might have a fawn stashed nearby...

... I couldn’t resist ... so I walked over there and saw her standing there looking at me... then saw a dawn scamper off... so I left them be...

... I usually see new fawns around Memorial Day... do I guess that’s on schedule even if a lot of stuff seems two weeks behind still....

I think it's only bad if you were to drink it continuously.

Yeah... it’s been a long time since I read it... so I just looked it up... it’s linked to cancer if consumed in large amounts... but I did see that strong sass. tea contained a lot of the compound ... I think I’m might still pull that tree up for it’s roots and make some tea... there’s a little walnut right there too... silly trees growing in the wrong place...

I just read you can get high off concentrated sassafras oil... never heard of that before... don’t think I’ll try it though... I'm goofy enough as is!

You might look up and find out what time of year is good for root tea making. .it may be only certain times of year that it's good.

I just went out to batten down the hatches and saw two of them gobbling up mulberries...
