calling any one from missouri

Had to check and see if mine were popping up yet. .
Nope. Not yet.
Aptly named they are. . they come up almost over night. Always a surprise because I forget about them until they show up.
And they smell soooo good :drool

I think some of mine are early this year ... which is weird because about everything else has been running a week or two late...

Normally August 2nd or 3rd is when I see the first one actually bloom... the 3rd being a family member’s birthday so that sticks in my head...

I always look forward to seeing all the swallow tail flutter flies that they attract.

That reminds me. . I don't think I've seen a monarch all summer. :hit

I’ve kind of accepted that monarchs ( mercurys and flutter flies both) have passed the tipping point and will not recover... but I hope that isn’t the case.

I might have spotted one this year, but more likely it was the other one that mimics monarchs...

But other than that our local flutter fly population actually seem to be doing well, so that’s the good news I suppose.

You know what I’ve noticed missing this summer are the little brown bats... I keep meaning to look up and see if they’ve been hit by disease or something... but normally I see them around the yard light and this year I have only spotted a couple.., ?

I usually do see some here once in a while. And normally I can spot a caterpillar or two on my milk weed.
Uh oh.
It just dawned on me. .the ducks may have eat the caterpillars. :(

Hum. .I haven't seen a bat either now that you mention it. Not since the one that danced on my head. That was back in October I think.
