New here...we are in SW MO and I have a granddaughter that is interested in showing Bantams. Not really sure where to start with this project. We are familiar with raising chickens ...have raised egg layers for many years but have never raised bantams or shown chickens. Are there groups we need to join? Should we start with buying from a hatchery or private individual?

Thanks for any input!

Hi, welcome to the MO thread! Well if your granddaughter is a kid, she could join 4H or FFA. Your county will have local chapters. The county fairs have all ended but in many of them kids show their chickens and other poultry. (Kids can show chickens in the open divisions with adults as well.)
Coming up-- ⫸there's a state poultry show at the State Fair grounds in Sedalia this OCT. https://www.poultryshowcentral.com/Missouri_State_Poultry_Association.html
You would definitely be able to meet and talk to breeders there.

Joplin has a poultry swap first Sat. of each month at Turkey Creek Feed. That's always interesting to go to, you would meet chicken people selling all kinds/quality birds, it's a mixed bag, always different, well attended. Often muddy.....go prepared.

Thanks for the reply...there is no 4H in our county and she is not old enough for FFA (she's 10) so those are out. I did find out about the show in Oct while searching and we do plan to go and see how things work.

Thanks again!

Our storms and flash flooding started here around 4:30. We got drenched meeting with my daughter, her boyfriend and his son for dinner with my mother, husband and I. We were celebrating my daughter's 22nd bday! Of course when we got to the restaurant it was an absolute downpour!! By the time I got my mom's walker out of the trunk, I was soaked through, coat, dress and all! But we had a really nice dinner with everyone.
8 hours later and it's still raining, but not quite as hard.
