I just saw a couple of hummingbirds at the feeder... they certainly seem to be hanging on to summer longer than usual....

I've had a couple of hummingbirds last week, but haven;t seen any yet this week.

We used to have a lot of chipmunks around and it was fun to watch them diving in the leaves. I've not seen one in a while...

I'm trying to decide if it is the chipmunks that are making holes all over my yard or if it is something else. We have had chipmunks for 14 years, but this is the first time that our yard has been full of holes. So, I am inclined to think it is something else. I just wish I could get rid of whatever it is that is plugging our yard full of holes!

I went out after dark and put the big acrylic window in the coop, over the hardware mesh that has been open---I had forgotten to do this yesterday. It stayed dark for so long this morning....I have no hope for the 2 Spitz pullets laying eggs before spring. They are 18 weeks now. The hens gave me 1 egg yesterday, 2 the day before.
Fred the spider is still alive and well and enjoying breakfast....I assume these spiders don't survive the winter.

54º F this morning here! If the humidity was a tad lower I'd open all the doors to the shops and garage and cool them down...

That's what I was thinking.

These holes go deep and I believe are tunnels. The biggest hole opening is about the size of my fist and most of them are about golf ball size or a little bigger. I know we have armadillos in the area because I see them dead on the road about 5 minutes from our house. I have never seen any on our property or our neighbors property. I would think our dog would chase them off. Whatever they are, they need to leave!

It's currently 59 here (feels like 57) and the high today is supposed to be 70. My dog is loving this weather!! She is a black lab. Last night she must have let herself out about 20 times.

Small diameter tunnels mean moles or voles usually. Stick your hose in there after blocking off the rest of the holes and fill er up... it may take a while.
