Looks like the one my daughter found yesterday. Named him Oscar. Took a LOT of convincing he needed to go back to where she found him. The game all summer will be find Oscar every day.

We got an inch of rain! It's 50 this morning, but tomorrow will be low 30's. Possible freeze. :(
Chicks are doing fine but one had splay leg and we had to make a hobble, then isolate it. Supposedly it takes only a couple days to correct since they grow fast. DH helped a lot, I couldn't have done it without him.
First I made the straw-hair tie one and felt it was too tight, then found the bandaid idea. It seems much more comfortable now. I have it in a box in the upstairs bathroom. The rest of them are in a brooder cage in the basement. Meanwhile, broody hen has 4-5 days left before hatching hers. I'm in the 'what was I thinking' mode right now.
Here are a couple screen shots showing what I learned. The hair tie one is very hard to get over the feet. We were so afraid of injuring it...

I like to give new chicks a clump of sod in their brooder. This helps them develop immunity to coccidia. They are a bit afraid of it at first, but I know they will tear it to pieces over the next couple days.

Here is the hobbled splay leg chick, standing up straight, looking at its friend in the mirror...

I’m trying to convince my husband that this old peacock coop is saveable. The siding is in rough shaping and I think I could fix it myself. It’s 10x24, the back is fiberglass for light, one side is has a large open area covered in hardware cloth, the floor is dirt and petrified peacock poop, no nesting boxes but that can be fixed, concrete foundation with wire covering the concrete and a few feet out. What do you think?

my shed/coop was in far worse shape when I rehab-ed it...

I say wave the ‘fix it stick’ at it, and give it a little paint and you’ll have a fine chicken house

I wonder if I should put a clump of wheat sprouts in with the Cinnamon Queens? They got chick probiotics and now are getting a bit of Bragg's ACV in the water.

The sprouts on the right are for today's entertainment with the hens. Days 5-10 in the trays.

If you do, make sure they have some grit....I added chick grit today.
