calling any one from missouri

Peroxide is good to have around in case your dog gets skunked....I've got a quart of it, so haven't looked for it in stores lately.
Speaking of dogs, those of you who have them, do you give them heartworm med?
My granddogs didn't need it in Oregon, what's the risk here?

This critter was waiting for me on the back sidewalk about a half hour ago 😦

Third one since last Wednesday 😳

What the heck! You better see what your book says about breaking a snake curse.

Well. . I haven't ever done heartworm meds. It comes from skeeters...and we sure have plenty of skeeters here. My 2 labs live outdoors and have never had heart worm meds...my yeller dog is 10 years old.

I don’t have the book handy, but the main folklore I hear about copperheads is that there are always two of them... so if you say “I had a copperhead at the house yesterday...” folks will always say “you better be on the lookout for the other one...”

And then you hear that copper headed snakes smell like cucumbers... the one in the garage the other night did give off a musky smell that was kinda like cucumber when I caught it from under the tool cabinet... but it wasn’t an exact cucumber smell

Another is that if you kill a copperhead and leave it stretched out, upside down on the driveway, the hoot owl will find it that night and leave you good luck in exchange for the free meal

Then there is the oft told tale that fiddle music at night draws copperheads, so you gotta be careful if you’re having a shindig, hootenanny, or similar gathering on the porch this time of year 😉

Oh Zarky.
You always make my day :lau:lau
Perfect excuse to cancel all hootenannies and shindigs for the rest of the year IMO.

well did you?

I did the first one... but the owl didn’t take it... so I didn’t get any good luck... I gave it a Viking burial the next day on the burn pile

The second one was a small one I killed in the morning and it’s noggin got chopped off with a shovel....

but the noggin kept trying to bite so I buried it so kittens and turkey would not happen onto it... but when I went back for the rest of it that afternoon it was gone... not sure what swiped it... but I didn’t get any good luck out of that one either

But I did lay the one from this morning out earlier...

No good luck yet though.... I just stepped over it as I walked back up from the power line after admiring the moon and listening to coyotes yodeling... the phone camera doesn’t do it justice 😐

I heard the owl🦉 in the yard around 4:30 this morning, but it must not have been hungry because it didn’t take the snake...

But since I spread grass seed yesterday afternoon and now we’re getting a nice gentle “farmer’s rain” ... I’m counting that as good luck anyway 😉
