I butchered one of the 2 remaining meat chickens. She was almost a year and a half old!
I also continued my battle against those darn squash bugs. I pulled up a lot of weeds around the base of the raised bed garden because the bugs were hiding out in the weeds and tall grasses. They have also started attacking the watermelon vines and even the tomatoes and green pepper plants. I hate squishing juicy bugs with my bare fingers but I was out there squishing as many as I could find!

Does anyone know a good way to prevent their return next year? Or to at least diminish their numbers next year? I am thinking the answer is going to be, "don't plant the vining veggies next year so they don't have their favored food source". But I'm hoping someone knows of something else effective too.
I'm heading back to PB on Wednesday. Hubby and I drove to Greenville, Illinois yesterday to buy a trailer at a Buchheits there because none of the ones around us have had any of the trailers we wanted. We've been waiting MONTHS!
But, now at least we can go to Herculaneum and pick up the siding we need. I will feel much better when we have that purchased and sitting in the basement, even if we don't get it installed for a while.

I use Gardstar Garden and Poultry dust, it’s permethrin. I got it one year for mites on a mama hen w her new chicks. It didn’t seem to hurt day old chicks. I dusted the birds and also whole coop with it. I never used any bug killer on the garden before, but started using it for squash bugs, and it kills them overnight. Before that, I lost all those plants every single year.

For cabbage family worms, or squash vine borers, I use BT, which is a bacteria that kills them. Bacillus Thuringienisis. I spray it on the plants. It really works for any kind of caterpillar.

I'm East of JP's Bargain Barn about a mile down county road 521 is my road. I'm on a dead end dirt road off of a dirt road but my driveway looks a bit out of place because it's asphalt now.

Pineapple Whip is a non dairy frozen delight. It was always just pineapple, but in recent years they’ve added more flavors. It’s really high in sugar, and it’s really good. And the hula girl on top moves her hips!

Springfield has 3 or 4 locations and they set up at various events around the area. Not tiny events like Lamar, but big events....like the 4-state Farm Show, the State Fair, etc.
