WOW I over slept this morning!

So hornworms are under control anyone got a cure for blossom end rot? I promise I won't inhale it if it's a spray... As I understand blossom end rot is a problem of the plant not being able to absorb enough nutrients. I started applying Hi-Yeild Calcium Nitrate 15, 0, 0 every two weeks 1 teaspoon per plant with watering as soon as I saw some blossom end rot but some plants just don't seem to respond and have lots of blossom end rot.

I think it's caused by calcium deficiency. I've been told to add crushed egg shells in the hole when you plant. I've also heard you can bury a tums with each plant when you notice it to correct it. Haven't tried the tums myself.

It starts at fruit set, so every fruit on the plant now might be affected, but future fruit should be fixable.

That's pretty much my understanding is the plant is having problems taking in enough calcium to satisfy the fruits needs. I'm adding 15, 0, 0 so the calcium is there but some plants still have blossom end rot.

There are several factors that can cause blossom-end rot, but they all are the result of poor absorption of calcium. It could be that you have low levels of calcium in the soil and the plant cannot meet its calcium needs.

Another possibility is that you have a low soil pH and calcium is tied up and not available for the plant.

The third possibility is either too much water or not enough water and a constant drying out and wetting of the soil. Tomatoes need a consistent supply of water so they can uptake nutrients correctly.

I'm going to add some quick lime to the pots that have blossom end rot and see if that helps those plants absorb more calcium.

It's been a few years but this is what I used. https://www.amazon.com/Botanicare-C...57731594&sprefix=cal+mag+spray,aps,139&sr=8-5

We didn't grow a garden this year, due to the renovation and losing our barn girl to do horse chores for the summer. I'm glad because there's no way I could have handled our huge garden and the horse/duck chores in the heat we've had. LOL
