Interesting! I never heard of tapping a walnut, only maple trees. Let us know how it goes! This is an experiment this year, tapping a black walnut tree to make syrup. Do any of you have experience with this?

Are you getting any sap?And I realize it takes 40+ gallons to make a gallon of syrup. This is just an experiment. I’m going for about 40 cups to make 1 cup.
Not sure if it’s too late in the season.
There wasn’t very much after 24 hours, maybe a quart. I read that if it’s too warm, or too cold, the sap won’t flow. The weather has been so erratic that I don’t know when it would have been best to start. They say nights below freezing and days in the 40’s. Well that has been interspersed with much warmer days and a few colder too. I’ll leave the tap in and see what happens even tho I suspect I started too late. This is a learning experience this year. Are you getting any sap?

I learned about tapping walnut trees here on BYC. If you google black walnut syrup, you will see that it is actually sold commercially. There are lots of YouTube how to videos.
