Those are some beautiful birds mopargal!

I really like the D'Uccles but just dont have the room for another breed. I dont's have the room to breed half of what I would like to.

Great pictures! I really like the looks of the phoenix bantam cockerel. What characterisctics do they have? I am brand new at raising chcikens. We had a very injured chicken (? rooster) which had to be put out of his misery yesterday. My son took upon that task. Otherwise having fun with them.

I ♥ my Phoenix bantams. I would like to see more people raising/showing them. They do require some special care due to their long tails, but they actually do very well in a free-range situation too. They fly well, and tend to be predator savy, but they are bantams, so you have to watch out for hawks. I have recently gotten some birds from Cy Hyde here is a link to a page about him: http://animalsinthecity.webs.com/cyhydes.htm

and here is a pic of a white cockerel that I got from him:

Now if you know your SOP, you may say that he has the wrong color legs. This is true. Cy's birds have a high percentage of Onagadori blood, thus the willow legs. I am using his birds to hopefully give my birds that extra-long beautiful tail

. Slate legs should be easy to breed back in. I am also working on putting some new and exciting colors on these birds. Here is a link for more info on Phoenixes: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Phoen/BRKPhoenix.html there is also a link on that page to info on the Onagadori.

REALLY late in getting back to this! Yep, we had to do that too. Currently we are battling a fox who keeps getting our chickens, lost two today in the middle of the day!.

Neat to see another Julie, who kind of lives in the general area!

It finally happened to me, have been lucky all these years, and yesterday, my year old lab, who has always been around my chickens and not bothered them, killed my favorite rooster, poor old guy was 7 years old. The dog was trying to break up a fight, and just got carried away. Do you all think he will kill again now? Very sad...

I always believe that it is a not a matter of IF, but rather, WHEN...that way I am vigilant when dogs and chickens are together.
My worst predators have been my own dogs. I have 2 dogs that killed chickens just less than 2 years ago. One now shows no interest, but, the other one still does. I keep a very watchful eye on the one who seems better when she's loose with the free range chickens. It will be MY fault if she kills again.
The other one is on a leash and I am trying to train him. The dogs will never be loose together with the chickens.

I agree. My pups have chased the hens and the rooster goes after them. In fact, the one took a nose dive a couple times in the mud because the Roo was protecting his girls. Now that we have fenced in an area for the dogs to go outside it won't be an issue unless I let the chickens out of their run and they fly into the dog's area. So, definitely keep an eye on the dogs when they are around your chickens. One or the other may get hurt! Or you trying to break them up!
