That storm track missed us by about 1/4 mile. We are about 20 miles west of Grove, I was out in the back pasture as the storm blew in. It got very dark, very windy and the thunder rolled constantly for about an hour...I went around making sure everything was buttoned up and secure...and we didn't even get a drop!

I came home to 116 newly hatched chicks... LOL Ok, time to pull back on the hatching! Out of 116 I only had 3 chicks that were bantam Cochins...

Anyone want chicks...

I have to admit, I'm kinda addicted to hatching. If there was more money in it, I'd start a hatchery... It really is my cup of tea!

Almost forgot to mention, I ordered chicks from Sandhill 10 months ago and finally, FINALLY got them today. So, 116 chicks, 200 chicks already in the hoop house and 25 chicks from an order 10 months ago... So that is about 350 chicks... When it rains it pours.

So you're saying that you would breed the Chicks with one another first, then those Chicks back to blk Cochins? And then it would take say 4 more generations to be pure Cochins again which would be blk/split lavender? I've not done a project like that before so it could be fun albeit, would take patience!

Wow Dave that's a good number to come home to! What bator do you use, I must have one muhahahaha!
I guess the big guys still make money? Start that Hatchery and hire some of us chicken lovers lol. We'd probably work for Chicks....well, some Chicks anyway

I proudly use a Leahy Favorite 416... lol... I can advertise since they have been out of business for over 50 years now... Best incubator around ain't no lie though! Mine is real nice to look at too... redwood so it smells good while it is going and don't look ugly as living room furniture.

Yes to the hatchery but why don't we all go into the business. The Missouri Chicken Addict Hatchery LLC! We can all hatch for chicks!

Would we make any money or keep all the chicks for ourselves?

Let me know when we wanna start that! I need money now though! Got a job anyone?

Oh, I'm sure we'd make a ton of money doing it that way! Maybe I'm lucky I haven't gotten into hatching...
