My chickens are definitely happy for warm water and treats! I also switched out to those black rubberized bowls, the water in the coop doesn't freeze at all and the one outside only had a thin sheet of ice this morning. I'm hoping it's going to help for this winter. No electricity to the coop and it's 400+ feet to the nearest plug.

Everyone is hanging in there, deep litter seems to be the trick.

almost 2 inches of ice on the duck/goose pond.
had to get the floating heater installed... now I've got to set up some sort of a cage to keep the ducks/geese from getting under the heater element.

cow/horse automatic waterer froze solid... got a heater put in the base underneath, on a thermocouple. seems to be working...
don't know WHAT the property owners were thinking when they put this system in... rhe built in heating element is connected to romex, laid directly in the ground, wiring piggybacked of another waterer where the electrical outlet is DIRECTLY below the pan drain... and that drain has been uncorked for who know's HOW long. yep, it's been draining directly into the outlet.

the romex for that SECOND waterer was electrical taped to half of one of the super light duty two-plug extension cords.
can you say juryrigged?

the woodburning stove in the kennel (where the border collies and the goats with babies are) needs a repaired stovepipe because smoke comes out the joint at the back of the stove...

The ignighter in the pellet stove in the house quit...

and the well house has
1) no heater, and
2) no electrical outlets.

yeah, it's been a busy week.

So great to hear everyone is doing well. I woke up to a great surprise....

No snow and my French Black Copper Marans are pipping. Woohoo! on both. LOL

Now I just got to figure out what I'm gonna do with the 23 Silkie chicks I have in the
brooders in my closet, the FBCM's when they hatch, and the other 50ish Silkie eggs
still in the bator. Thank goodness the Silkies have finally slowed down on laying.
Now I can shut the bator/hatcher down for the winter.

Anyone need some Buff Silkie roosters for free?
Or how about some buff Silkie chicks, ages between 1-4 weeks old? I'm willing to
sell cheap. LOL

This weather has been crazy!

LOL How do you think an ex-Texan feels?
One second it's warm out there, the next the dang wind is freezing your ears off.

On a good note though, I had 8 French Black Copper Marans hatch out of 13 shipped eggs. 3 didn't develop and 2 died in the shell

I live near marionville.

welcome!

I'm on here actually to look for poultry for sale. Turkey, chickens, guineas, (no ducks or geese have bad experiences with them). Basically anything for the right price. Kinda tired of the craigslist post where people make up ridiculous prices to try and turn a buck. Thought I may find some descent people in here that would be willing to sell.
