This morning I went outside to find my hen (Madame) to have blood on her backside. I took her inside, and upon further inspection, found that her vent was prolapsed by about half an inch (her insides had come out of her vent). I think this happened early this morning.
She was acting normal, but now that my Dad and I cleaned and gently pushed it back in, she’s sleeping and looks quite lethargic. (He’s done this before but with sheep.)
Is she just tired from the pain and stress of pushing it back in or do I need to do something?!
I’m MOVING in literally 2 DAYS and if she has to go to the vet, it needs to be NOW.
Also, I’m water fasting her to try and prevent egg laying or many droppings. Is this the right thing to do?

Do not take away her water. She needs to drink, and I would give her a human calcium citrate with vitamin D tablet orally, or a Tums which can help with her prolapse. A little food should be offered, too. Look to see if it comes out again, and keep that from drying out by using vaseline or other mild oil. Honey or sugar plus a drop of water are also good. It can take days to a week sometimes for a prolapse to go inside.

Thank you for your help!
I just want to know, how will I know if she is egg bound?
The prolapse went back inside when my Dad and I lubricated it with coconut oil and pushed it in…
Her poo looks white and slimy though, which I read in the article is a sign of egg bound because the regular poop can’t get out. Now I’m worried that she is unable to poo…
She stopped looking lethargic though after a long nap, so that’s a little comforting…

Ok, last night I was about to check for a stuck egg but she did a proper poop so that means that there’s no egg blocking it, right?
I don’t have calcium tablets because I’m moving, but I chopped up nettles, (which have lots of calcium) and I’m giving them to her.
She looks so much better today, I think she’ll make a full recovery. She’s a very strong little hen. 🥲

Try to get calcium or Tums. If you have a food processer or blender you can liquify an egg shell and just about 1/4 of an egg or the yolk, or something she will take all of. An egg shell has calcium carbonate and the yolk has vitamjn d.
