{{{{{{{{ Calling anyone who has used Ideal!!! }}}}}}}}

Julie, I didn't intend to misinform. I have never had any remote desire to show a bird and therefore haven't any idea what is seriously considered SQ and never had the desire to find out either.

Hope everybody understood that. Of course, I would like to become a quality breeder of a few certain breeds but that will be another time and another place yet in my dreams.

I would like to show, but have no clue what vaccines or where to get them. I only have 2 hens that I am interested in showing. I just want to show at the state fair. I am in Dallas county Texas.

Most of my stock has come from Ideal via the feed stores. I did pick up a few from another farm and they were also from Ideal. I am new to chickens. I don't intend to show or breed anything fancy, just wanted them for eggs and entertainment. My speckled sussex hen (as I was told from pics posted on here) has too many white spots. And I must say that even though the feed store ordered pullets only, I ended up with roosters as well. In fact, three that were suppose to be pullets.

I do know from breeding other animals throughout my lifetime, that usually commercial purchases of pet or livestock is usually just pet quality. Not a bad thing, but not specially bred to show. Find a mentor by either going to a breeder who is established or find a local/state show you can attend and speak with exhibitors there.

for showing chickens here in tx you have to get the pt certificate for your flock its free basically a guy comes out does the test and prints the cert not that big of a deal im not sure who the rep is from your area that can do it but if you email the director Joseph Essler @ jessler @tvmdl.tamu.edu as far as ideal goes i ordered 100 chicks this year got 0 doa 1 died a week or 2 later all others made it to at least 5 weeks which is when i sold all the extras as far as show quality from ideal i got buff orpingtons with dark splotches on the tails the others didnt have anything that stands out so far and they are about 15 weeks old now and great birds hope this helps you
