Calm and friendly Egg Laying Breeds?

I'm looking for the best breed for lots of eggs and a calm temperament, not flighty. Any suggestions?

Orpingtons or Australorp are always a good choice. Though my favorite are Bielefelder.

Standard sized breeds that have a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle (potential lap pets) include Australorps, Orpingtons, Cochins, Brahmas, Sussex, and Faverolles. If egg production is a priority, Australorps are the best layers on this list, and Cochins are the poorest layers (although they are the best brooders and mothers). A Black Australorp holds the brown egg laying record with 364 eggs in 365 days. Whatever breed you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
