Is there anything I can feed my drakes to mellow their sex drive?? I have 9 ducks 5 female 4 males.. all hand raised so of course I looove them all. Hybrid Mallard/Black Swedish (mom & dad are approx 1.5 yrs old & babies 5 months old). I separate them @ night to give the girls a break but I would really prefer to keep them all & not get more ducks period. Any suggestions on calming their sex drive?? Thanks in advance!!

Not familiar with ducks, but know in roosters, its literally in their nature to mate with the hens often. Some are more aggressive than others and personality can be a slight factor. Spring time is also when they tend to get more rowdy.
But in this case, Maybe having multiple males has them fighting and harassing the ducks more often? Again I'm not familiar with ducks like how I am with chickens. Maybe need to consider removing some of the drakes permanently. From what I've read, it should be 1 drake for 4-5 ducks. Too many males?

If you must keep them, seperate all the male's besides maybe 1 in a batchlor flock where they can't get to and preferably cant see the females.

Besides literally removing the offending organs, I don't think you can calm a drakes breeding drive

You should have at least 16 females. Either that or rehome some of the drakes.

If neither are options, you'll have to keep them separated. I'd keep three males separated and have one male with the females.

just depends on their personalities. personally i have two drakes who have no girls (but can see and hear the girls 24/7) and they are best friends and perfectly fine together. my other drake has just two girls and does perfect, he is also happy hanging out with my two older boys 🤷‍♀️

It sounds like you would need to have 2 separate flocks - a drake flock and one drake w/the hens. Some drake flocks work out, some do not. It's always luck of the draw when you get poultry. I'm currently contemplating what to do with my extra drakes as it is not working out even after giving lots of time. The 2 juvies are always fighting - each other and the older drake. No winners, so it never stops. I do have the juvies separated, but this isn't stopping their drive for dominance. 🙁

I use to keep multiple drakes and always had to keep them separated because of fighting or constantly running after each other, Finally in 2016 I said enough is enough and by then I only had 3 Muscovy drakes, so thankfully I was able to find homes for 2 and kept one. It's just not worth the stress. Now I have 3 drakes 1 Muscovy and 2 Indian Runners . They never fight or chase each other. But it was never-ending when it was just Muscovy. Many females didn't help here.

That's exactly what I'm finding with my muscovy drakes. I have listed them almost free and can't find homes. 😕

That’s sad. A Muscovy drake with his very own females is really nice. Main reason I didn’t rehome mine is I always fall in love with them. So alternative is separated drakes with their very own females.
