I have 15 baby chicks: 2 Blue Cochin hens, 1 GL cochin hen, 1 Black Australorp hen, 2 Barred Rock hens, 3 Buff Orpington hens, 2 White Leghorn hens, 2 Easter egger hens, 1 New Hampshire rooster, and 1 RIR rooster. I read about every bird and their calmness, because I wanted tame birds. I expected (and hoped to some extent) the RIR rooster to be skittish and a good flock defender. I got the leghorns to have a great white layer, but expected them to be skittish. I expected EVERYTHING else to be tame. The Rhode Island Red rooster is skittish, as expected. Here is the problem. The Barred Rocks (both of them) are crazy wild. The Leghorns are even pretty tame, so I feel mostly proud of myself. Everything else is tame as well. Could you guess why the Barred Rocks are less tame? I hold them all and pet them all equally. I'm not sure what's wrong with what I'm doing.
