I have absolutely no help for you, I've never even heard of camel crickets before! But I have to chime in here to say that in addition to learning lots about poultry keeping, I am amazed at what I am simultaneously learning about other regions! Some of the pests and dangers are similar, but some are so foreign to me! North Dakota (where I am!) has it's own drawbacks, but it is such a learning experience reading about new things that always lead me to google, like camel crickets and ginormous snakes!

I too have never heard of the camel grass hoppers ...

Down here we seasonally have what we call "Mexican Grasshoppers" ... which really are Taeniopoda eques, or the western horse lubber grasshopper

These buggers are huge, but chickens LOVE them! ;)

I wonder how the OP made out ... so many of these threads where the OP never comes back to play Paul Harvey, and tell us "The Rest Of The Story" ...

you are so lucky to have that problem. At night I like to go on a bug hunt with my #1 chicken. I being equiped with a flashlight and a fly swatter. My chicken is completely into it and knows what the sound of a swat smack means. lol. however this year I'm not seeing much spider crickets or anything else really. bugs out here seem to be scarce for some unfathomable reason. So, unfortunately the hunt which allows my chicken and I to bond has been stagnant. she's still my #1 though. but if anyone has any good recipes for bait let me know. I'll definitely try the peanut butter thing. crumbs haven't been cutting it. Thanks guys your'e all awesome
