Cameo Baby Peahen

do you incubate all your eggs or let the Mama’s hatch some? Sweet Pea came from a bunch of eggs that were scattered all over pen that I decided to incubate. Young hen and she never did build a nest.
We incubate until the second week of July then let the hens that want to set have them. Late season chicks are hard to get through the winter but those with moms just do better. The grow faster and mom keeps them warm. The chicken hens are not quite as loyal to the chicks and usually give up on them after a few weeks but some will take good care of them although they teach them bad habits like scratching and eating things I really don't want my peachicks to eat.
The last pic is of my Sweepea, she raised two of the three IB split Purple cock chicks.
