This is 5 month old "camo". His mom is a black frizzle cochin bantam, his dad is a birchen cochin bantam. I've never seen this color pattern. . what on earth is it called?

I don't think the color is a recognized color. He also appears to be a frazzle, which occurs when breeding frizzle to frizzle, which you shouldn't do. His feathers will be brittle and break off easy.

I definitely don't breed frizzle x frizzle. mom had frizzle gene, dad was smooth feathered.

you get black or birchen chicks from breeding those two varieties.
Not necessarily, you could get Columbians as well. I get some every year from my Birchen Orpingtons over Black Orpington hens. Its a throwback from past generations. Columbians are needed to be crossed into Birchens from time to time to stabilize the pattern.
