Campine Chicken thread?

Pics
Westphalian Deathlayers are another breed from the West-European family of barred/flowered chickens.
There from Germany and have a typical rosecomb.
The Deathlayer or Totleger is possibly the biggest of these breeds.
Their markings are more flowered than barred.
Its tail is carried beneath 45°.
They have the same characteristics as the other breeds, namely they're flighty, free roaming, talkative, ...
It's all family

Hmmmmmm.....they don't have the "shirt front," maybe that's what we all have and we just think they're Campines!

mine are definitely a mix of the two -- my cockerel is hen-feathered, and all of them have pretty distinct barring in most of their feathers (it just doens't always line up perfectly), but the "shirt front" feathers are more more flower-like markings than barring -- i'll try to get a photo this weekend.

I got a Silver Campine Egg! A real, honest to goodness, full blooded, hatchable (hopefully) Silver Campine Egg!
Pardon me while I do the Happy Dance....

I was beginning to think I wasn't going to get ANY. Whew!

hooray!! congratulations!

i certainly know the feeling -- even though mine are still pullet eggs, i couldn't resist putting three in the incubator, along with some shipped eggs (different breed), just to see what happens... so far (day 9) they seem to be developing! so exciting!

Oh, Laura, I should have figured YOU would understand. This one eggs represents several years of work on my dream of raising SCs to Standard. I have been through so much planning and figuring, research and prep. I have had so many bumps in the road. But now, I have an egg. It is a milestone for me. The next will be my first chick, and I think that will be in about 23 days as I plan to set a batch on Friday and this egg will be in it! I can't tell you how excited I am!

wow, you've been at this SO much longer than me! extra-congratulations!!

Well, it is not actually my first egg. I have had them before, but I was not set up to start full scale breeding then. I actually sent some SC eggs (as extras) in a box of hatching eggs that I sold last year. The hen was taken by a hawk a week or so later. She was my only full blooded SC hen at the time. I now have three of Urches line and one that is half SC and half white Ameraucana, that I plan to use. She is built like a Campine should be and almost has the right coloring. She has been in with the Urch cock for over a month and the resulting chicks will be 3/4 SC and two different bloodlines. I just want to see if her chicks are built like her.

so cool -- only one of my two pullets is laying yet, but thankfully she's the "better" one (floppy comb, dark eyes, better barring), so i'm eager to see what the chicks are like. i'm actually crazily tempted to add a few more to the incubator for a staggered hatch, except i don't know how i'd deal with day 18-21 for the first batch, with no turning, but it would be days 9-11 for the recent eggs -- I should probably just wait. (although i suppose i could turn them by hand...)

Hey, I posted a couple of pics over on The Old Folks Home thread, pop over there and take a look. As a matter of fact, you should join us there on a regular basis (not that you're old
