Camping recipes??

We always bring our own bbq with us (a round, briquet-burning webber) and make pizza. Very easy...just buy the boboli pizza crusts, just a few coals for a low heat, top with whatever you like, put the lid on and done in just a few minutes. The kids love it! They get to pick their toppings and make their own...part of the fun!

Not recipes just a couple of suggestions.....

one thing I always do is cook the bacon or sausage 90% done @ home then freeze.....they take way to long when you are camping to start from scratch so all you really have to do is warm them back up again.....

I also will stock up on the little packages of condiments including honey, jam's & jellies & take instead of lugging big bottles of ketchup, mustard, relishes etc.....

ETA if you are going fishing you also may want the lemon juice packets too....

We also use the pie irons previously mentioned! Those are wonderful, and the kids like to use 'em too! we've made many things in them!

I also cook up pasta ahead of time... just quicker to have a meal at camp if pasta is already cooked, then all you have to do is reheat it. I make spaghetti sauce in big batches and freeze in family size portions... so that's something else we usually take, is a frozen bag of spaghetti sauce. Also use pasta for cold pasta salad. That's a staple for us. Quick 'n easy snack or side dish!

I pre-cut up veggies that we'll use for meals... easy to add to meals to cook (pizza's in the pie irons, omelets, etc) and easy to add to pasta salad... plus just for veggies 'n dip as a snack.

For me, ANYthing that can be prepped at home is done... b/c I'd rather not spend my entire time prepping/cooking/cleaning up... I do that enough at home!

So I need a pie iron and a tolerance for ash flavored food?! Ok Got it

I need to find enough of those packets. Last time we ran out too soon and we don't belong to BJs anymore....

More!! Give me more! I'm going tomorrow but I'll be back!

We've used the dutch oven and take cans of vegetables (I use fresh at home). Dump in all the veggies, add chicken broth, chicken (just not your favorite layer)

raw biscuits to make a dumplin, and whatever else you want to dump in. We love it and add something different every time (onions, carrots, or whatever is on hand). But of course if you're in a hot climate I might not recommend the soup since it's HOT!

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Youre a sport, fer sure.

Dont forget a love of fashionably singed eyebrows, burned fingers, smoke scented everything, dishes soaked, washed and rinsed in the same fire blackened pot, and the piquant flavor of insects - AFTER they've sneaked into your food, unseen.
Oh, and all this enjoyed while perched on hard benches and rocks as furniture.

Ah, Nature.

I do the foil packaged veggies and add whatever sounds good at the moment. I wrap in foil, a layer of newspaper, and then foil again. It keeps the food from burning.

Have fun

Gotta love it!

BTW..a hint on getting your fire blackened pots and skillets clean--Smear Dawn dish liquid on the bottom of the pots before you put them over the fire, the black will wash off easily. That is what we did in girl scouts when I was kid. And it has to be Dawn for some reason.

Davaroo you would be a fun camping buddy!!! I love the scrambled eggs in a bag idea..wish I had thought of that on several Girl Scout adventures with my daughter and her troop back when I was a troop leader years ago..easy!!!!
