Hi All! Just wanted to share this cute story.
First off, You all helped me with this runner duck a few months ago, he was not grooming and having some leg issues. He still isn’t perfectly groomed but his leg issues cleared up entirely thanks to your advice about Niacin deficiencies.
Anywho, fast forward to 2 weeks ago, when some loose dogs got into my coop and mauled 5 chickens and 2 ducks. My runner duck lost his 2 ducky friends (including my favorite duck—still so upset.) He was miserable. The other birds started to pick on him so I had to separate him. I decided to bring him in the house during this Polar Vortex cold snap, but of course he was so sad all by himself. So I work at the feed store and brought him home 6 ducklings. He was overjoyed and took to them instantly. He protects them, keeps them warm, showed them where the food and water was, etc. It is so cute how protective he is when we come in to check on them or when our dogs look in (he is rightfully afraid of dogs now, he wasn’t before because our dogs are so gentle.)
So, it’s a happy ending to a sad situation. My MALE runner duck has a flock of his own now! Too funny and cute.
