I just cleaned my coop yesterday and this morning before sunrise I noticed the chickens were restless. Two of the adult hens had fallen off their roost and are in the nesting box. I looked at my white leghorn mix and saw red dots moving all over her. I looked at the roosting bars and found hundreds of more. Here is a video of just the front corner of our coop where she is. I can’t tell what they are. I have ivermectin and elector psp. What should I use? Do I use both or is that to hard on my hens? I have one hen that is 5 years old and she has stopped laying all since last December. I have never had mites or anything like this. I use de and poultry dust. Looks like it hasn’t worked. Please let me know what is the best thing to do.

Thank you

I also put tape on the ends of the roosting bar, but I don’t think they aren’t sticking right. Also when I came in from the coop I have the all over me as well. What can I use to mash my clothes and hair?

You mentioned that you already use DE. I would like to point out, again, that DE does not work.
Get some permethrin ASAP.
Make sure you treat the entire coop and all of the birds once a week for no less than 3 weeks.
I would treat everything every 5 days and not wait a whole week.

They look to have a reddish tent so they're probably red mites. Your pictures aren't clear enough to tell exactly but whatever they are permethrin will kill them.

I have two cats and a dog, I have heard it is toxic to cats and dogs :/ so I have been leery on using it. But I want these gone.

Is this the right permethrin?

I’m thinking red mites. Even with a magnify glass I can’t see how many legs are on them. Hope this picture is a little better

I use it on my dogs.
It's labeled for dogs too.
As long as you're not spraying your cats with it it's fine to use in your chicken coop.
But no you should not spray your cat with it.
And don't let your cat in your chicken coop until it dries.

x2! Once dry in the coop, the cats can go there. The permethrin concentrate is easy to use and works great, as mentioned.
When using anything out there, long sleeves, gloves, and at least an N95 face mask are essential. Spraying the birds at night, with a small flashlight, is easiest.
Here we are about to treat the group for the third time Monday. Those rotten wild sparrows come into the coop for the feed, and bring the mites...

They are mites, most likely red from sucking on your chickens during the night. I had the same thing a couple years ago. They were all over and I never noticed until I saw some on me after holding the poor chickens. Don't worry about it getting on your or clothes, they don't thrive off humans and I don't believe on dogs, either. I have a dog and it was never an issue with him. Just wash clothes and body as you usually do and should take care of that.
Editing to add: of course spray coop and birds, too. Kiki's advice is perfect for that. I was just trying to ease your mind about them getting in your house or on you :) I know it worried me!
