min 6000 volts for bears, higher for colder climates to get through thicker fur.Did these folks mention the voltage needed? We have a big charger, because we have over a mile of hot tape or wire to run, and weed contact issues too.

weeds will always be a problem; only real solution is more juice or cutting them / gravel / landscape fabric.
you could maybe get an amp / watt meter, and plug the energizer into that; if you see the watts go higher, you'll know it's time to cut the weeds.
in my case, cause i already have welded wire, so i ran my wires higher off the ground (2ft and 3.5ft). 5" in front of the welded wire. i figure if a bear is going to try and break in or get to the coop, it's gonna at least touch it once.
it's recommended at least 5 lines, but that's with only electric fencing.
