can a black hen be a RIR?

Hmmm. Is this an RIR mix or a purebred? Did you get her at the same place as the other hens?

RIRs are supposed to be a rich auburn color. If you include a photo, people here can help ID her breed but no, she's not a RIR.

Rhode island reds are red. They should be a rich dark red, but if it's black it's something else.

I think a mixed breed can be black. if she's maybe more than half a breed that can come in black.

There is a chicken genetics calculator online and if I'm not mistaken, black rooster = black chicks, both male and female. So, if they have an Australorp rooster around, I'd skip the paternity test. ;-)

Could you give me the link to that?
