we will be hatching about a dozen bantam chicks that include Showgirls, Silkies, Frizzle and regular cochins, and Golden laced polish this summer. we live in San Antonio, Texas where it gets VERY hot in the summer usually 95-100.5 during the day. We will be building a good brooder out of wood and chicken wire. We were wondering can we put the brooder out in the coop with a light turned off unless it gets kind of cold at night and put them out there at a very young age? Would it be best to keep them inside for 1-5 days? Thank you!!!

As long as they stay warm and you can monitor the temp. I had my brooder in my barn and got up several times at night to check the temp. I kept the brooder light on and would raise or lower it to keep the temp. just right. Make sure they can get away from the light if they get too warm. I also kept the brooder predator proof, even though it was in my barn. When I had my chicks, keeping them in the house was not an option at that time.

They'll be fine. I never brood chicks in the house, ever. Just too nasty for me

ok it is then double predator because I will put the predator safe locked brooder in the predator safe locked coop do I need to keep them inside for the first night? I will put a thermometer in the brooder and put a adjustable height heat lamp so I can change it if to cold or warm
