Can a camera flash hurt a chicks eyes?

Can a camera flash hurt a little chicks eyes? I want to take a few pics in a while but dont want to hurt their eyes, should i turn my flash off on my camera first?

i think their eyes are a lot like ours.. it does hurt for a little bit, and can ruin our vision for a few seconds, OR MINUTES.. but then it should come back.. I accidently forgot about the flash one time and took a picture of a rooster i had awhile back and he flew up to the top of the pen. fell down.. and just stood there for about 2 minutes.. Then he started looking around. a minute later he started acting normal again. so i try to keep the flash off for fear of scaring/blinding them.. not to mention well lit areas with non-flash pictures seem to come out better (on my camera).

I try to lower the exposure so the flash isn't as bright- but i will keep that in mind on taking photos- even a less bright flash could not just hurt their eyes but be camera shy??
