Hi my little sapphire olive egger is 12 weeks old. It came sexed and for the longest time I was sure it was a pullet till this week when its comb got really red. Thoughts? It doesn’t fight with the other too chicks and I don’t see any pointy saddle feathers but it’s a bit early. Is it possible that the comb and waddles indicate more that it may lay in a few weeks as early as that sounds?

It looks like a female to me. Breeds like that which will have large floppy combs when they are full-grown will get larger and redder combs and wattles earlier compared to different breed chicks of the same age in my experience 🙂
For instance, this chick that turned out to be a hen looked like this when she was only 2 weeks old. Her comb is giant and floppy now😆

Oh wow I would have guessed roo for that little one. My gut still tells me hen for mine. It wow those waddles and that comb sure turned red fast.

Yes it was a hen and she layed her first egg really early. Her daughter is just like her. Very friendly at a young age which makes you think rooster and developed quick.
That’s awesome! I have one I’m super suspicious of but your post and other’s post are making me hopeful! How early is early for laying? And did she squat before she laid? (Like she was preparing for a rooster?)

The sapphire olive egger never squated and she laid insanely early. I want to say something like 14 weeks. I had a normal sapphire gem who laid early but not that early and she squated. The soahire gem was the one who was friendly like a rooster and was really big really quick.

Well that makes me hopeful! Mine is not squatting but she’s checking out the laying boxes, eating oyster shells and comb/wattles are big and red. She’s 14 weeks. She’s pretty friendly, more friendly than the others I got with her. But she’s not like my older hens. But she’ll prob get there. I’ve heard good things about Sapphire Gems! I might get some in the next couple years.
