I know this isn't a disease process because she was perfectly healthy and this morning, I think she got scratch either by chicken wire or another chicken as I put them to bed at night in my little shed since they are babies so no predators can get them and take them out first thing in the morning about 5:45am when they start to get active...when I put her in the cage for transport to outside, she was fine...could the other chicks have accidently pecked her eye out...she kept scratching it with her foot, i then ran in the house and got some antibiotic drops and picked her up and saw the scratch on the lid of the eye and she didn't want to open...then I put a drop on there a couple of times today....at which points, she was eating and doing good...then this evening, when i brought everyone in for bed, it is totally swollen shut...again, i treated with antibiotics....i think they pecked her eye out because i can't hardly force it open to look at it....looks like she scratched a lot because now there are missing feathers....what can I do to save her.....any help please, this makes me sad...i've had her a month now!

First, check to make sure she doesn't have parasites on her eye. I think more likely she's scratching because things heal as they itch - or she's trying to figure out what's going on with her eye.

What droplets are you using?

Yes, she'll be fine with one eye but we want to make sure you use good antibiotics. I'd recommend the terramycin eye ointment from your better feedstores. About 1/8th inch ribbon inside the eye socket.

I was! One passed because I think that the eye may have rotted in the eye? I am not sure there was an eye there to begin with but the second one looks like it was infected. I wondered if it happened to the other one and I missed it. THey could have been picked at? I think I would have noticed if it was bloody. I pulled her in and gave her antibiotics and put cream on her eye. I noticed tonight she has no nostril on that side also. She seems to be doing great!!!The infection seems to be almost totally gone and I will keep her in for a bit more on the meds then get her back outside.

I'm so glad she looks as if she's going to make it. Keep us posted.
