I have Sophie , a Silkie & Sassy a Straight Feather Show girl that live in the house. I wasn't going too in the beginning but they became attached to me. They live in a Large rabbit cage on wheels, with a wire floor and a pan that I fill w/ kitty litter. They learned how to drink out of the large water bottles very fast. When they are out around the house they wear a chicken diaper. It has a plastic liner inside to make it easy to clean and I cut up puppy pads and put in them to soak up any mess. They have learned pretty quick if they don't have a diaper on & they poo- they go back in the cage. They follow me around, lay out on the back door rug in the Ac, watching the other chickens through the sliding glass door. I take them with me places, and they really like it. Sophie will through an all out fit if she see's me pick up my keys. Silkies especially are great for this since they like to cuddle and be near you. They sit with me when I'm watching my night time TV shows etc. I don't have kids... so these are my chicken kids.
If your looking for diapers, this is the place. They'r cloth, but you put a plastic baggie in the "pouch". You know, some people say that the only difference between a parrot and a chicken is a few thousand dollars!
After my babies (4 of them) were getting too big for their brooder, I would let them out for an hour each day to run around the back sunroom. They were so cute, doing immature chicken things
and pooping all over.
After play time they went back in and I cleaned up.
I counted the days for when it was time for them to go outside.
There are many people who have chickens as house pets. They usually wear a chicken diaper. I wouldn't do it unless they were injured or sickly and had to be kept indoors for a short period of time.
Mine are all outside now, and I still gotta clean up their poop. I'd rather do it outdoors though.
If it were not for the stomp and rant of my DH, I would have either a silky bantam or a serama as a housepet. I'd put a diaper on it and take it to work with me. Some of my outside babies are the sweetest and most cuddly chickens I've ever known and I'd love to have a very small chicken in the house. Who needs a cat or dog bed when you can have a nest?!
