Can a Chicken with no back feathers wear a saddle?

A little over a week ago Aunt Louise was attacked by a dog. Currently, she has no back feathers. She has a lot of scabs on her back that are healing up nicely, but today she started picking around them. There are several little red pick marks around the edges of the bigger scabs. We've tried looking for blukote locally, but can't find it. Until we can order it online and receive, I was thinking about making her a soft fleece saddle to wear like I've seen on the forum. I have two questions though - WILL THE SADDLE IRRITATE THE BARE SKIN? and WILL THE SADDLE PREVENT HER WOUNDS FROM HEALING PROPERLY?

People often put saddles on chickens with bare skin. It helps protect their bare skin from being damaged by the roosters spurs and it also keeps them from getting sun burned. In this case, it might help keep her from picking at herself. She should still be able to heal.

I would keep checking on her to see how her wounds are healing, though. Just to make sure everything is fine under there and there are no problems.

I have to agree, a saddle could be just what she needs. Just don't throw it on her and not look to see how things are going. You may have to put antibotics on her a few times to help the feathers and wounds.

Just dont ride her too far and she will be fine
