Can a dog get sick from eating chicken poop?

HI!

My chickens are nine weeks old so they are now usually outside all day. I take my dog out a couple times to pee. She is always trying to eat their poop! She is on a leash so I try to pull her away from the poop but sometimes she still eats it!!

She is usually more concerned with eating the poop more than seeing the chickens! My dad was telling me that a guy at his work, who has a bunch of animals, that if a dog eats chicken poop they can get sick. I don't know if I should trust him because he also told me when my Buff Orpington was a chick that she is going to be all white!!

Just because this guy told him that yellow chicks all turn white!! He raises meat birds not layers! So if they can get sick, what is it usually get sick with? Thanks so much!!

Some dogs think that chicken poo is like PEANUT BRITTLE! They just can't get enough.

My dog loves eating chicken poop and he hasn't gotten sick from it yet.
I wouldn't let her eat to much poop but I don't think a little bit will be a problem.

Dogs are walking, breathing garbage cans. We have farm dogs, they eat every manner of poop they can find, cow, horse, goat, chicken, and have for years. They have never gotten sick, in fact they are ridiculously healthy. I have even had a couple who apparently thought cat crap was a special delicacy!

In my case there's nothing I can do about this love of poop short of penning them up which would negate the purpose of having ranch dogs in the first place. I still can't help myself yelling at them though when I see them doing it!

My dogs would have died long ago if chicken poop were toxic. I swear I hardly need to buy dog food with all the poo they like to eat--chicken, cat, horse, goat, whatever.

That's why I never, ever let a dog lick me. Ever.

My dog likes to eat chicken poop and then preceed to roll in the rest of it.

My dogs wait patiently for me to move the electric pasture fences so they can do some cleanup after the chickens or goats... Whenever I see somebody letting their dogs lick their face, that's what I think of...

Most pathogens are species specific. Cow germs generally don’t bother chickens. Chicken germs generally don’t bother dogs. I’m sure someone can come up with an exception, but generally it’s not a problem.

Poop is full of concentrated partially digested nutrients. Lots of animals eat poop. Chickens love to scratch and peck at most animal poop. Lots of good stuff in there.

It doesn’t bother me in the least when my dogs eat chicken poop. But then I don’t French kiss my dogs. If I did I might be more worried about where their tongue had been.

I couldn't figure out why my Doberman has had really bad gas! Well I caught him tonight in the chicken poop pile.
