Can a hawk bite or claw through hardware cloth?

I am almost positive a hawk can bite through the floor of a cage with 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I had one today wound three of my quail through coated 1/2 in.

In response to an earlier post in this thread.

A dog can get through what is commonly called 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I know this from people who have raised rabbits and used the 1/2 inch hardware cloth as the floor in their cages.

We had a similar issue with a hawk...it didn't break through but sure was persistent. This going to sound odd but, the way we finally deterred it and stopped it from coming around was by stringing old CD's to a cord and tied it above the run. Even with a slight breeze they moved and the the last time we saw the hawk it was perched in a tree looking, but not dive bombing the run. So it was either the Cd's flashing in the sun, or it read that it was old Barry Manilow hits

...which ever, it worked.

As long as it is secured nothing smaller than a bear can tear hardware cloth.
