Can a missshapened egg support life?

Torpedo egg. Our hen has always layed these eggs from day 1. I was curious if we decided to let her brood on these eggs, would this shape be able to support and hatch a healthy chick?

Torpedo eggs aren't desirable because while the chick can develop it's more likely to get stuck during hatch from not being able to rotate properly. I'm conducting an experiment on my current Olive Egger hatch with a couple torpedo eggs as well as some other less desirable eggs for hatching. I'll know how that goes by hatch day next week! I don't know if it's the angle of your image but yours looks even skinnier than the one I'm hatching! If you would like to follow along to see how things turn out I'm documenting it here.

What a great idea. I will surely follow along.

Good question. Life can be pretty strong and you might get an egg to hatch, but I'm with Aart and others, it's quite likely that chick would have issues hatching. But I'd not try for another reason. I don't want the genetics of a hen laying that egg in my flock. It's not a normal egg, probably doesn't fit an egg carton. I just don't see any benefit to having an egg like that showing up regularly in my flock.
