First of all, hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I'm excited to join this community!

I have two Rouen ducks. A drake & a hen. They're almost a year old now and they've just started laying eggs. So far they've laid about a dozen and i've been collecting them and refrigerating them(I don't plan on allowing them to hatch since I don't want more Rouens).

I wanted to raise Call Ducks. Can my Rouen hen hatch them herself? Or will I need to incubate the eggs myself. I've heard conflicting answers. Some say the Rouens are too large and will crush the call duck eggs whereas others say it's not a problem. I'm also concerned as to if my hen will not only sit on the eggs or if she'll just ignore them. So far, she hasn't sat on any of the eggs that she's laid. However, I read online that Rouen ducks have a tendency to not sit on the eggs until she's successfully laid all of them, so maybe that's what's keeping her off of them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

I wouldn’t allow a heavy breed of duck to hatch and raise call ducks as call ducks are very fragile as ducklings. Also, I don’t think Rouens are the best breed for parenting.

I don't have any other ducks/chickens for the job. Do you think it'd be okay to allow the Rouen to hatch the eggs and then once they're out of their shell, raise them myself?

Hello..If she becomes Broody go right ahead and let her raise them. You won't know till you try. Call Ducklings are small but tough little babies. A good Broody will not trample or injure her Ducklings. Best wishes. I wouldn't remove them from her at hatch unless she was being a terrible mother.
