So bewildered! Today I found one of my week old chicks lying on her back dead. When I picked her up, I noticed what appeared to be a bite mark from a bee or other flying insect. Does anybody know if a bee sting would kill a young chick?

it definitely could. A bee sting could kill a human if they are allergic to the poison. chicks that age are going to be very vulnerable to things like that. they are small so if the poison gets into their blood stream it is going to flow through its blood vessels quickly. also at this age their immune system is not very strong

Well....I am a bit relieved to know it was not illness. There brooder is now covered with a fine mesh screen. Boy, I feel awful. Poor baby! Thank you for the response.
