Can an utter lack of common sense be a symptom?

Ollie is a very special case. I have also cared for another disabled dick who at one year old still had her baby fluff. Its amazing how they can stil have a great life even though there is something not right. Large scale breeders cull that kind of duck- but for those caring enough- giving a special needs animal a chance at as normal a life as possible is such a wonderful experience. Hopefully Catfish will catch up eventually- they usually do.

Micro duck is another mini wonder mentioned here on the duck pages. He is gorgeous too.

This a a birthday thread made for him!

Awwh poor baby,
heart defect is what I thought, since hearing or vision problems don't generally mean they are smaller...
and Ollie is gorgeous!!! As is micro duck

I had a muscovey duckling just like that, gosh it had been so long ago I had for gotten, she tried her best to keep up, thanks goodness she was in a fenced area or she would have been dinner for some predator, she lived for 4 months, she just got to where she couldn't do any thing but lay around. When we finally decide to put her down she died in my dh's arms before we had to do it our selves. I hope your little one makes it but sometimes in spite of all you do they just don't..

sounds like catfish needs to become an indoor duckling... If you decide to keep catfish indoors and catfish gets to the size of a normal one week old duckling, give me a PM.... We were going to donate some really old diaper harnesses to Sandcat and Ming Ming before he passed, so we still have some we can donate. Mind you they are old and worn out, but they'll do the trick (they belonged to my ducks when they were babies)

Really really??! I've been wanting duck diapers for ever! :3 And then Catfish can become a big diapered duck! Hahaha.

I got photos of Catfish with a hatchmate, coming as soon as my phone works!

Okay everyone, here's Catfish! Her hatchmate beside her is three days YOUNGER than her.

She's the one with the lighter coloured head.

Good side size comparison. Again, front duck is 3 days younger.

And this is what happened for about a minute after I put it outside. I was able to grab the phone again, open the camera and take the photo before it got back up.

She's 6 days old now.

I would definitely start her on some niacin or brewer's yeast in her food... This will help with the leg issues, hopefully... Give her yummy fresh foods, like peas and greens to keep her happy. And start snuggling her inside so she gets used to not being around other ducks. I would set her up a little home inside of a rubbermaid plastic container, with soft bedding, like saw dust. Give her a heat lamp and a mirror. Sounds like she's just going to need special attention. It seems she might be like Ollie the duck and catch up eventually. But take many many pictures, esp comparison pictures while you can. Is she a blue ancona?
