I keep forgetting to ask, and the internet isn't helping much on finding out the information I need (or maybe I'm not looking properly)?
Anyways
Can any domestic pigeon breeds Specifically Rock pigeons (not other pigeon species like the Victoria crown pigeon, wood dove, stock dove etc not those) and their different unique fancy breeds find their way back home? Example:
Jacobin pigeon, fantail pigeon, those are the only pigeon breeds I know of
But yea? I don't own any of those breeds but I want the Jacobin pigeon soo badly so I wanna make sure that if I get it and I'm taking this pigeon out, it can find its way back home like the Homing pigeons, carrier pigeons, racing pigeons?
Can the Jacobin pigeons and Fantail pigeons find their way back home if I release them? I mean I don't want to release them like people do when they're going to race their pigeons. I mean like I'm just taking him outside on my hand and letting him do what they want like Chickens?
Can they find their home since they came from Rock Pigeons?
Thank you

Fantails definitely can’t and they are poor flyers, I’ve tossed a few in the paddock and they just stay on the ground. I’m not sure about Jacobin pigeons but I imagine they aren’t that good either. More fancy they are the more terrible their homing ability is.
If the fantail or jacobin was to breed with a good homing racing pigeon
Would the offspring have the homing genetic in him/her to find its way ba k home if scared or captured and managed to escape?

Well I’m not too sure. My pigeons don’t have any racing or homer in them and yet I had two fly away a few weeks ago because of a hall and they returned in half an hour or so (not my fantails).

I've had half homer/racer, and half flying Oriental roller pigeons, other half american fantail, race fly roll ect perform and find way home from out of site ect, but my parrots had better homing instinct in general from far away, and my Jacobins had to be conditioned slow over months to fly from there and still not good until head wing and tail feathers trimmed (then they were good flyiers) as they are bred to have extremely. Thick wide long feathers. Most breeds that are not performance homing breeds, like show counterparts, will get lost done road block around corner or once sits in a tree out of viwv of you and home. Mostly you want your homing breeds to fly as have fancies out so fancirf can find way home easy. Many tumbler breeds like Portuguese tumblers flying flights Oriental rollers tipplers ect, are all part of rock dove/pigeon (same thing being interchangeable, but sometimes noting larger dove species because they were eaten) species.

Hi as long as you have a dry semi clean hutch and food and fresh water and keep them caged for 4 to 5 weeks there should be no problem that they come home too your roost just when u let them out skip the morning feeding and once u shake that can of food your gonna have a pile up at the door!
Good luck

All pigeons want to return to their roost because it represent, safety, food, mate and their offspring. My neighbor had 10 fantails and their coop door came open, some of his birds got out and the just sat on top of their coop till he came home.
