Can anyone explain DE and what I should be using it for?

I live in an area of NC where the humidity is often high, and droughts are frequent as well

LOL
We must be neighbors then!
It's raining now for the first time in about 2 weeks

I have never used it in my girls' food, but I do use it sprinkled throughout the coop, and in the run. I also sprinkle it heavily in the part of the run that I have made into a sand bath. I do think it keeps the insects down, as for other benefits, I am not so sure.

Hello Bear Foot Farm!
I live in the foothills of the state, just west of Winston Salem. We are several hours apart. I looked at your website, and I love your sheep! They are so beautiful. I have never raised any sheep, but I know thy must be a lot of work.
It has rained about 3-4 inches here in the last 24 hrs. We need it!

I agree with Dawg and Bear Foot Farm. DE should not be used instead of wormer. There are lots of ways to control worms in your livestock. The area I live in seems to have a large worm load, so I have to stay on top of it. When using DE for parasites, it takes a lot of it. You can see it on the feeds. I'll throw a heaping handful, mind you I have small hands, into about 3-4 gallons of feed. I don't use it all the time, as it's very hard on the lungs.

that would be a vast improvement from 'obamacare', the 3000 page bill that they had to vote on before they even read it. we use de to kill flies and in our chicken feed and our dog feed. it naturally deworms them although some worms in dogs it wont like whipworms which you must use panacur. have not seen a flea all summer. we dont use de for puppies but use strongid wormer.

If you're using DE in your feed as a drying agent for dog food or chicken feed, or to keep bugs under control in their feed is all well and good. However, DE is useless when it gets wet, once it dries out though, it's ok. Again, DE is useless when wet...as in the innards of dogs, chickens and people. Your are essentially feeding them powdered sand (silica)....indigestble and excretes out as powdered wet sand (silica), it's not a wormer.

Thank you Ma'am!

I grew up in the Graham/Burlington area, so I know the region well

We had 7 inches of rain from Sunday night until about Midnight Monday, and now they are saying we may get a tropical storm Wed. night

I hope you are in a flood safe area, we are under a flood watch here tonight. 7 inches of rain is a LOT of rain. I thought we had a lot but we only had about 3.
Stay safe! Bunny:bun

Does he sell it as a wormer for any of your pets or for other peoples pets? If he doesnt prescribe or sell it, gee, I wonder why? I'd look for another vet if I were you!
