Can anyone help me guess the breed mix of this puppy?

I love border collies. We are owned by three at the moment. An 11 year old lady who found me at the age of 5 months after being abandoned by her abusive owners. She is a joy and a sweet girl but it took years to undo the damage done by her previous owner and earn her trust. Sometimes I look at her and could cry at the thought of what she went through before she showed up outside my chain link fence. Sorry it's a particularly sensitive subject for me as the way I see it, anyone who would abuse a dog or another animal is one step away from abusing a human.

Then there is Bubba and Sissy in the picture. They are dedicated to one another and all I have to do is ask Bubba where Sissy is and he's looking for her. She got herself clipped by a pick up truck last March after getting through our fence and suffered a broken pelvis. He was beside himself worrying about her and to this day hates any moving tires. It's pretty impressive to see a 50 pound dog gnawing and screaming at a dirt bike front tire if you trying to ride the bike while he is outside. To this day I'm a believer in hot wiring fences to protect everything from dogs to chickens.

Hope your puppy has a long and joyful life with you. She is really pretty and do I see a hint of brindle in that brown coat?

Oh, believe me, I am in complete agreement. My last dog (we lost her about 6 months ago) was a stray that showed up at my mom's house about 9 years ago. It was love at first sight. She had been abused and had so many issues with sounds, car trips, people. It was so sad. We never had another dog as long as we had her so she never had to share our attention. I can't count the nights I stayed awake snuggled under a blanket with her because storms terrified her. It's funny, I never thought I could love another dog...I still cry every time I see her bowls, toys, leash...but here I am again. :)

It's amazing to me how dogs are able to love and trust someone ever when people have been so incredibly cruel to them. One of my neighbors has a three legged pit bull. I don't know the story but his person told me it was because of severe abuse from his former owner. People can be just pure evil sometimes.

Thank you. She is already fitting perfectly into our family. It was funny, when I brought her home my husband grumbled we didn't need another dog, and within 5 minutes was snuggled up talking baby talk to her. Lol I have 4 animal loving sons, as well, so the doggies get lots of attention. :)

As for possible brindle...hmmm...once in awhile I ALMOST think I see some darker markings but even in person I am just not sure. I love brindle though so I wouldn't complain. :)

She'll be beautiful! The combo of a lab and pitt is a good one. I'm sure her eyes will turn brown when she's about 10-14 weeks. Get her used to the chickens now - remember that most breeds have a "job" and we don't want her thinking the chickens are lunch. I have two cats and one is totally indifferent to the chicks and the other is restraining herself. LOL. Keep us posted as she grows!

I also think she's announcing her Pit daddy loud and clear, especially that first picture. It will be interesting to see pics as she matures.

I should get pics of our latest dog and play guess the breed also.....

Thank you. :) Yes, I am working on the chickens. My sweet little Meadow (her 'big sister') thinks the chickens look like way too much fun so we have been spending a lot of leash time out with them learning that we respect the birds! :) It's a work in progress! I have my little herd of stray cats I claim and I can't get over how they all are with my chickens. I actually catch them snuggked up napping with the older chicks who have been recently weaned from their mommas! :) Now to make sure my dogs are that way! :)

I vote the pit as being the most likely candidate too. In that last pic (which is adorable, BTW), the puppy's coat looks really short and slick. Labs have short coats, but not quite as short as a pit. I think 3-week-old labs would look a tad - um, fuzzier? - than she does; that looks like a pit coat to me. Did a quick google search; here's a couple of 3-week-old lab puppies for comparison:

Thank you. :) I agree with you...even though they are both short haired her's seems super short and puppy hair is always fuzzier. I know this will sound strange, but also when she runs she looks 'bully'. I know she's so little but she has a wide chested muscular look. It's super funny. Goodness aren't those puppies cute! :)

I have a very sad update on my precious Willa. :hit

Just a couple of days after I posted this the most horrible thing happened. Willa was having a normal day, playing, eating, just being her adorable self. Mid afternoon she vomited just a bit. It wasn't much so I figured maybe she ate too fast. She was acting really sleepy but she does because she's so tiny. I was a bit concerned but not too much. She didn't eat her final feeding. Decided if she wasn't feeling good in the morning she would see the vet first thing but it just didn't seem like an emergency. She used her puppy pad about midnight then went in her kennel to sleep. I noticed it was more pee than normal (quite a bit more) but the color was good and I stupidly assumed that was a good sign...she was well hydrated, all is well, check in AM. About 4 am I heard her cry out and jumped up. She was lying in her kennel with urine literally pouring out the sides. I grabbed her out and she was completely limp and felt cold. I grabbed my phone to call an emergency vet and felt her spasm and stop breathing. She was dead.

I talked to the vet later that morning in absolute shock. Without an autopsy there is no way to know for sure but he believes very strongly it was Addisons disease. It's a congenital autioimmune disease that attacks the adrenal glands. The massive amount of urination caused an electrolyte imbalance which sent her tiny body into shock and she died. I know that she didn't have access to any chemicals or poisons of any kind and everything fits so I believe his assumption is correct.

Now for the strange, almost creepy, ending to this story. A couple of days later I was driving down the highway when a dog ran across in front of me. I realized as I hit the brakes and dodged, it was very young and had just ran across a 4 lane divided highway with lots of traffic! I turned around, went back and chased this pup away from the road then spent about half an hour running through weeds up to my elbows getting covered with sand burs (those are some brutal stickers!) wearing flip flops! And I caught him. A huge, terrified, badly bloated and skinny part great dane puppy. I looked him over and started crying. On the back of his neck is a white mark exactly the same shape as the one on Willa's neck. It's an odd shaped mark, almost like a sickle shape so very unexpected. Needless to say, he is home now. He has been wormed and is getting over being terrified. I don't know WHY he was there and I was there at the exact right time. He couldn't have survived where he was much longer. All I do know is he needed me and I needed him. Poor guy isn't named yet. The whole family is fighting over it!

Here are the markings. The first one is his, the second, Willa. His is larger but the same odd shape.

Aw gee, I was just starting to read your thread and thinking about what breed she could be when I see she has passed away. Such a beautiful, sweet puppy. I am so sorry

Tell your idiot neighbors to spay their dog. You said she is a purebred Labrador - why do they let any & all old things get to her. You don't see many chocolate labs, it's odd they said one bred her also. BS. Too bad you couldn't dog nap her and have her spayed - they probably wouldn't even notice.
